“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
Ask whether assignment is available for your policy and location, what fees apply, and what you must pay upfront. MedaSynq does not arrange assignments.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
Under the FTC Funeral Rule, funeral homes must give price information by telephone and a written General Price List when you visit in person. Federal law does not require them to send the list by mail or email. You can select individual goods and services and use a casket purchased elsewhere.

We were told that this mortuary provided excellent services, but when we called, an answering service picked up and it was immediately apparent that the person on the other end of the line was not local—he did not know the name of the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. But we continued. We were told that they would pick up our loved one’s remains from the hospital that day and that they would call us as soon as they had him. We never heard from them. At all. The next morning we called Struve and LaPorte, and they met with us that morning and made all the arrangements. Mission Mortuary is a corporate-owned business. Struve and LaPorte are family-owned. The difference is quite obvious. Do not use this company. Mission Mortuary never even contacted us, not even after we called them the day after my father died.”
