“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
Ask whether assignment is available for your policy and location, what fees apply, and what you must pay upfront. MedaSynq does not arrange assignments.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
Under the FTC Funeral Rule, funeral homes must give price information by telephone and a written General Price List when you visit in person. Federal law does not require them to send the list by mail or email. You can select individual goods and services and use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My husband unexpected passed away. We went to Laird in Nacogdoches to have him cremated. All the paper work was filled out and ready to sign when we asked the cost of the services. We were quoted a price twice the price of other funeral homes. I felt like I had been talking to a salesman who called me " sweetie" because he wanted my business. We were told the higher price was because Laird owned the crematorium. As we left we were told 'you get what you pay for'. We went to Colonial Mortuary 25 miles down the road in Lufkin. We were treated very professionally and got the cremation for less than half the price. The real gem in this tale is that the cremation was done at Laird. Guess we got what we paid for at half the cost. Laird just wants your money. Buyer beware!”

“I DO NOT RECOMMEND LAIRD'S FUNERAL HOME IF YOU WANT TO BE SURE YOUR BURIAL WISHES ARE FOLLOWED THROUGH WITH.... My grandmother went and set up a burial agreement with Laird's funeral home and spent several thousand dollars to ensure that her specific wishes were granted upon her death. After she passed away she was NEVER given the funeral/memorial service or the viewing that she had paid for. I never even saw an obituary. A portion of the money was supposedly refunded back to the estate, which I feel is a complete and total disregard and disrespect for her and her time, money and the arrangements that she felt were secured through this funeral home. She was very old fashioned and her funeral plans were important to her. She was proud when she went and paid for the services and I know she would be very let down that the agreement wasn't kept. Also her ashes were given to a family member who has still (after a year and a half) failed to do as she was asked to do, which was to put them at the foot of her husband's grave with her daughter's ashes. Any funeral home that makes money off of ppl under the agreement that they will have things done a certain way when they pass away, and then fails to live up to those agreements, is a disgrace, in my opinion, and should not be trusted.”
