“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
Ask whether assignment is available for your policy and location, what fees apply, and what you must pay upfront. MedaSynq does not arrange assignments.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
Under the FTC Funeral Rule, funeral homes must give price information by telephone and a written General Price List when you visit in person. Federal law does not require them to send the list by mail or email. You can select individual goods and services and use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“After the sudden, unexpected death of my mom a couple weeks ago, my dad and I were feeling lost and overwhelmed. I called Cremation Society of NM on a Sunday, explaining that I had no idea where to even start. I was comforted to hear that the funeral director would call me the next day, Monday, and talk to us about our options. Dad and I waited by the phone for the funeral director to call, but they never did. We tried to call back in at the end of the day Monday, and were told to just take care of everything ourselves online. Problem is, the website had different prices listed depending on which part of the website you looked at. We decided to just go into Cremation Society of NM in-person the following day, Tuesday. The doors to the building were locked, and the funeral director seemed confused and annoyed by us being there. We explained that we needed help figuring things out, and were directed again to do it ourselves on the website. Then, we noticed that the reason she was annoyed was probably because we interrupted her game of solitaire that was on her computer. We decided to visit CremateSimply after we left. They offered a place to sit down, filled out the paperwork with us, and provided the same services for $800 less than it would’ve cost at Cremation Society of NM.
