“Do you accept insurance assignment?”

Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
Under the FTC Funeral Rule, funeral homes must give price information by telephone and a written General Price List when you visit in person. Federal law does not require them to send the list by mail or email. You can select individual goods and services and use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“The service started out well. The director came to my dad’s home and handled the affairs which was convenient especially since we were choosing cremation. However it went down hill from there! Poor communication was paramount! I even had to chase him down to pay! I called, left messages and texts (sometimes simultaneously) but I would not hear back from him for several days! I did not get the death certificate until almost a full month after his death which of course delayed my ability to to finalize his affairs. I didn’t get his remains until 1.5 months later. I thought cremation would be a faster process not slower than burial! SMH! I would not recommend them.”
