Know Your Rights
Under the FTC Funeral Rule, funeral homes must give price information by telephone and a written General Price List when you visit in person. Federal law does not require them to send the list by mail or email. You can select individual goods and services and use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“In my first post I was pretty upset because a response I received was not given from a full understanding of what had happened. But after further review of the situation and talking with James. I was able to clarify my post. Different states have different rules for memorial services. Such was the case between Indiana and Michigan. In no way was I saying that my Dads’s remains had been misplaced or not out in the urn. I was going by Indiana’s rule that a Direction has to be present for a memorial service as long as any remains are present. That was my misunderstanding for Michigan. Since no funeral director was present I thought his ashes weren’t either. Which could have been perceived the remains were not given to the family. They were. I publicly apologize for any misgivings this may have produced about the integrity of the funeral home.”
