“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
Ask whether assignment is available for your policy and location, what fees apply, and what you must pay upfront. MedaSynq does not arrange assignments.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
Under the FTC Funeral Rule, funeral homes must give price information by telephone and a written General Price List when you visit in person. Federal law does not require them to send the list by mail or email. You can select individual goods and services and use a casket purchased elsewhere.

As a funeral professional, I filed a complaint with Ohio Board on behalf of seven senior citizens whose money either had been taken by the principle of Assured Protection or being held hostage by another funeral home. After more than 7 months of no results from the board executive director, Jarrod Williams, I reached out to the Amanda at the funeral home. I was told by an employee, she is hardly ever there and asked for a return phone call. She returned the phone call several days later, between teaching some fitness class and going to a Harley Davidson dealership in a non professional setting where notes and details could not be recorded. I asked for her to return the call in a more professional setting and she has never returned the call. This is not a funeral professional!”

“If you have to be the one responsible for seeing that the death certificate gets signed in a timely manner, then you should receive a discount on your funeral or cremation services. My family received no update on the status of the death certificate signature & had to be the responsible party for getting it done. And it’s no problem to take on this kind of responsibility when you are simultaneously trying to process the emotions involved with the unexpected passing of a loved one. As long as the bill is paid for services rendered, there’s really no concern on Coldren Crates’ part on whether or not this may cause emotional anguish on the family of the deceased. Caveat Emptor. Consider all of your options.”
