“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
Ask whether assignment is available for your policy and location, what fees apply, and what you must pay upfront. MedaSynq does not arrange assignments.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
Under the FTC Funeral Rule, funeral homes must give price information by telephone and a written General Price List when you visit in person. Federal law does not require them to send the list by mail or email. You can select individual goods and services and use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Two months ago today, April 25, 2024, my sister passed away, so I've had time to process my feelings about Dirk Thompson Mortuary. I requested to do my sister's hair and bring her clothes on April 27. At that time Dirk agreed that I could do this, but when I called on April 30, he refused to let me come, so I asked about coming on May 1st. He still refused and said he could comb her hair. I was prepared to drive two hours from my home to do this one last thing for my sister. She was known for her long red hair. This was something we had promised each other we would do at the time of our passing. Dirk Thompson took this last precious thing that I promised I would do. It tore my heart to pieces to the extent of me being mentally and emotionally unable to attend her funeral service. This was the most disorganized, unprofessional experience I've ever had--not to mention the numerous mistakes made, with names spelled wrong and relationships not being listed right, as well as incomplete and incorrect receipts. One receipt listed my sister's funeral expenses, but another one had her daughter's funeral expenses listed. The unexpected loss of my sister was enough to deal with. I don't think I will ever get past the disrespect I felt and still feel from Dirk Thompson Mortuary. This is how I feel and is my personal opinion. Signed: Sherry Silver.”
