You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
Ask whether assignment is available for your policy and location, what fees apply, and what you must pay upfront. MedaSynq does not arrange assignments.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
Under the FTC Funeral Rule, funeral homes must give price information by telephone and a written General Price List when you visit in person. Federal law does not require them to send the list by mail or email. You can select individual goods and services and use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I am writing to express my profound disappointment and distress regarding the handling of my mother’s cremation services. What should have been a respectful and compassionate process during a time of grief was instead marked by negligence, miscommunication, and a complete lack of empathy. From the very beginning, each step of this experience was mishandled: Incorrect Urn Provided: The urn selected for my mother was not the one delivered, a deeply personal error that added unnecessary pain to an already difficult time. Missing Guest Book: The guest book, intended to preserve the memories and condolences of those who came to honor my mother, was inexplicably lost. When I inquired, I was told the staff would need to review security footage to determine its whereabouts. No resolution was ever provided, and I remain without this important keepsake—unable to send thank-you notes to those who supported us. Failure to Provide Death Certificate: Despite repeated calls, I was consistently brushed off with vague promises of follow-up that never came. Ultimately, I had to take matters into my own hands to obtain my mother’s death certificate. Unprofessional Communication: After initial contact, my calls were ignored by the staff member I had been working with. This lack of accountability and responsiveness was both frustrating and deeply hurtful. Questionable Reviews: Based on my experience, I find it difficult to believe that the numerous 4- and 5-star reviews reflect genuine customer experiences. They stand in stark contrast to the treatment I received. This letter is not written in search of an apology—I’ve moved beyond the point where words can repair the damage done. However, I do expect reimbursement for the fee associated with the death certificate, which I was forced to secure independently due to your failure to fulfill your responsibilities. I urge you to reflect on the gravity of your role in people’s lives during moments of profound loss. The absence of compassion and professionalism in your services is unacceptable and should be addressed immediately to prevent others from enduring similar trauma.”

“The care and respect me and my family received was excellent. I felt welcomed and wanted the moment I step in the doors. This was my first time using Angelus Funeral Home, and I will proudly recommend them to anyone who is in need of professional care. I mean literally every staff member had a dire need to make sure everything was ready and in order for my aunts service. Continue the good work and hope they are around for many generations to come.”

“Dignified and wonderful services were held by Angelus for my Aunt's home going. I really enjoyed seeing that we do still have good people to do business with during the time of losing a loved one. I formerly had family members services at Gatling's and Leak & Sons, but I felt a more Genuine connection with the staff at Angelus. I would recommend this Funeral Home to anybody in the Chicago Area or surrounding. AWESOME JOB and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”
