Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
Under the FTC Funeral Rule, funeral homes must give price information by telephone and a written General Price List when you visit in person. Federal law does not require them to send the list by mail or email. You can select individual goods and services and use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“This mortuary and cremation service did NOT do their job. My daughter was taken there from the morgue with jewelry on that we asked for. They said that they would clean the jewelry and return it to us when we came to pick up her ashes. There was a full description of the jewelry from the morgue. When we came to pick up my daughter's ashes, there was no jewelry. One of the items was a family heirloom that my daughter had inherited from her deceased grandmother. When your only job is to cremate a body and return the belongings to the family, and you don't do that. You haven't done your job. Where did that jewelry go?? Was it stolen by an employee? We did file a police report. They claim it was cremated with my daughter by accident. I still don't believe them. If you're smart, you will look elsewhere for cremation.”
