Know Your Rights
Under the FTC Funeral Rule, funeral homes must give price information by telephone and a written General Price List when you visit in person. Federal law does not require them to send the list by mail or email. You can select individual goods and services and use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My mom passed away Aug. 21, 2025. Our family learned a lot about the funeral business. None of it was pleasant. We went to make the arrangements and set a date. We decided on the 4th of September because they said that was the earliest they could do the service. But, the burial was going to be 2 hours after the service. That made no sense to us, but we had no choice. Then, my dad wanted to see my mom and we were told that there is a charge of 250.00 each time my dad wanted to see her before the viewing on the 4th. This is his wife! My mother! And it felt like she was being held hostage! Something about changing her clothes and making her look nice! We have seen her at her worst and she was dressed when they took her! We didn’t care about ant of that! I had never heard of such a thing. It was very difficult to be told that we had to make an appointment and pay to see her! The day of the service, the air conditioner was not working and it was quite warm. After the service, they had told our Pastor they might be able to do the burial sooner. We were able to bury her after the service but it was frustrating that this was not a given when we made the arrangements. My parents had already paid for their headstone and as of today, we are still waiting for the headstone to be set in the ground. The family has been frustrated with all of these set backs, extra charges and thinking that since they had made all their arrangements years ago, this process would have been smoother. This experience has been an eye opener for all of us and I am not looking forward to having to do this again with my dad. Very disappointed in this whole process.”
